There are twelve different episodes in this hilarious book, and each one is funnier than the others. The dialogue is liberally sprinkled with Yiddish expletives . . . just like the ones your grandparents used. (Fortunately, a glossary in the back of the book will fill in any missing words in your second- or third-generation vocabulary.) Hoppel Poppel may be irreverent—even blasphemous—but, like it says in the dedication: "If we do not laugh at ourselves, who will laugh at us?" Not recommended for any kid who has not been bar or bat mitzvahed.
